U of L Faculty Pursue Ousting University President, More Sanctions Announced For Men's Basketball

Associated Press

The University of Louisville Faculty Senate has voted to anonymously poll its members to see whether they have confidence in Dr. James Ramsey's ability to lead the school.

News outlets report that a majority of the members of the Faculty Senate who spoke during a meeting Wednesday called for Ramsey's ouster, saying he has exhibited both a lack of leadership and transparency.  Ramsey, who last month said he wouldn't resign, didn't attend the meeting. University spokesman John Karman says Ramsey has been a staunch supporter of faculty.

Chairwoman Pamela Feldhoff says a no-confidence motion is scheduled April 20 but could be postponed if two new minority trustees aren't appointed by then.  A vote of confidence doesn't have the power to remove Ramsey from office. He is under contract until 2020.

The conversation comes at the same time that more self-imposed sanctions for the men's basketball team were announced.  The university investigated allegations that a former staffer hired escorts and dancers to entertain recruits and players.  U of L announced in February that it was determined that the violations did occur.  U of L head coach Rick Pitino has denied any knowledge of the incidents.

The NCAA is also investigating.
