Two Ky. Lawmakers Vote Against Debt Ceiling Plan

Republican Geoff Davis (left) and Democrat John Yarmuth both voted against the debt ceiling bill.

WASHINGTON – When the U.S. House passed the Budget Control Act to raise the debt ceiling, not all of Kentucky's representatives were on board. Republican Geoff Davis (KY-4) and Democrat John Yarmuth (KY-3) both cast "No" votes Monday.

In a statement, Davis said he is concerned about the spending cuts that would take place if the legislative super committee fails to come to an agreement.

Yarmuth said, "any plan to reduce our debt must protect Medicare and require millionaires, billionaires, and big oil companies to share in the sacrifice."

Central Kentucky Democrat Ben Chandler (KY-6) said that although the debt ceiling measure was not perfect, he voted for its passage because it avoids a government default and has protections for veterans and beneficiaries of Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.
