Tweet Sends Kentucky Candidates A Twitter
Alison Lundergan Grimes calls the tweet sexist, Senator McConnell's spokesperson tells Grimes to worry about the issues.
The post was a photo shopped picture of Alison Lundergan Grimes. The face of the Democratic Senate candidate is superimposed onto the body of a woman in a tight-fitting midriff shirt. The altered photo was captioned with the question “Grimes Is The New ‘Obama Girl’?”
Grimes released a statement saying "The incredibly inappropriate comments from Sen. McConnell's team mark a developing pattern and demonstrate just how out of touch McConnell is with the women of Kentucky,"
The original tweet was made by an unnamed staffer at the National Republican Senatorial Committee, picked up and posted on Kentucky Republican Marcus Carey’s blog and retweeted by McConnell’s political director Iris Wilbur.
McConnell’s spokesperson Allison Moore told the Herald Leader “ it’s really pathetic that the Grimes campaign is more worried about what some intern in the basement of the NRSC is tweeting rather than talking about the real issues facing Kentucky."
But even a spokeswoman for the NRSC thinks a major line has been crossed, saying she was appalled by the tweet.
