Truck Drivers Being Trained To Help End Human Trafficking

Every day crimes occur on roadways across the country and they could be happening right in front of you.

Kentucky State Police Officer Jason Morris says “It’s going on every day down I-65 where I work.  There’s no telling how many folks that run up and down the road that are actually being victims of human trafficking”  Officer Morris says if your gut tells you something seems wrong, call police and have them check it out.

Truck and rest stops have become hubs for human trafficking and here in Kentucky, efforts are being made to put a stop to it.  Attorney General Andy Beshear. “We in the Attorney General’s Office are going to be pushing of the Truckers Against Trafficking Bill that has been passed or being proposed nationwide.  It will require training when you’re getting your CDL license, that license that lets you drive the truck, in what human trafficking looks like.  It will provide a card for everyone who gets one of those licenses to put in their wallet that tells them how to report and it will let people know what happens to your license if you become involved in this type of activity”

This month a mobile unit filled with training for the program ‘Truckers against Trafficking’ is making its way across the state.
