Traveling Vietnam Memorial On Its Way To Lexington

A mobile replica of the Vietnam Wall memorial in Washington D.C. is coming to the Kentucky Horse Park in July.

If you’ve never visited the wall bearing the names of every service member who died during the Vietnam War, this traveling exhibit offers a recreation of that experience. Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Heather French Henry says it’s actually one of several touring the country.

"This wall is the largest of all the mobile walls, which means you will have an opportunity to actually get a rubbing of the name of your loved one, of your friends who are on the wall, just like you would at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.," she explains.

The 300-foot replica will be open 24 hours a day between July 9 and 12th. The Kentucky Horse Park will not charge admission or parking fees for those visiting.

Henry says the display represents a chance to start a conversation about sacrifice and service in the community.

Josh James fell in love with college radio at Western Kentucky University's student station, New Rock 92 (now Revolution 91.7). After working as a DJ and program director, he knew he wanted to come home to Lexington and try his hand in public radio.
