Town Branch Trail Expansion Up For Discussion Tonight

By Alan Lytle

Lexington, KY – The first section of Lexington's Town Branch Trail at Masterson Station opened to walkers and bikers almost five years ago, and now organizers are ready to roll out plans for the next phase of the project. The public is invited to view a number of options at a town-hall style meeting Monday night. Keith Lovan is a municipal engineer for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.

"We do have funding to do another segment. That's what we're going to be revealing tonight, is the segment we're going to be building hopefully this year and then we've also got remaining options for getting it to Rupp Arena. We're going to be presenting that as well tonight."

Lovan says as the trail moves closer to downtown, securing all of the property rights has been as much of a hurdle as raising the necessary funding.

That's why we have multiple options. If one property owner it doesn't fit into their operation, then we have a backup plan. We have met with most of the property owners along the way just to get their input, find out what their concerns were, and as we get funding, we will be working more closely with those individuals."

The meeting is from 6 pm to 8 pm at the McConnell Springs Visitors Center off Old Frankfort Pike.
