Three-peat For Kentucky In Big Blue Crush
LEXINGTON, Ky. - A surge in donations on Friday helped Kentucky record its third consecutive victory in the annual Big Blue Crush; a contest between the fan bases of the University of Kentucky and the University of Tennessee.
According to a release from the Kentucky Blood Center, the final tally was Kentucky 3,160, Tennessee 3,107. Heading into Friday, the final day of the competition, Vol Nation had built a slim lead of 13 points but a strong response to urgent appeals helped Kentucky secure bragging rights once again.
“This is the sweetest victory yet. Thanks to our dedicated donors we now have a good blood supply heading into the holidays, and as an added bonus we beat the Vols for the third year in a row,” said Martha Osborne, Executive Director of Marketing and Recruitment for KBC.
Osborne credited the Blood Center's combined strategies of "conventional and social media" for the victory.
