Frankfort, KY – Western Kentucky was hardest hit by January's ice storm, but 33,000 Kentucky Power customers in the east also lost service.

In February, a windstorm knocked out power to 39,000 Kentucky Power customers and the lights went out on another 21,000 customers in May.

Now, Kentucky Power wants to try to recoup more than $10 million in damage costs associated with all three weather events.

The utility has received permission from the Public Service Commission to establish a separate account for that purpose. Later, the utility will ask the PSC for a rate adjustment to cover the costs.

Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities also have separate accounts for restoration costs associated with the ice storm and Hurricane Ike.
