Suit Claims School Staff Endangered Diabetic Student

The mother of a former student has filed a lawsuit against five administrators and staffers at Eastern High School in Louisville she says failed to help her 15-year-old daughter manage juvenile diabetes.

Melissa Rowe filed suit on behalf of her daughter, Emily Rowe, in Jefferson Circuit Court Thursday. It accuses the administrators of negligence for failing to keep track of necessary medicines and failing to notify Rowe of her daughter's diabetic episodes.

The suit asks a jury to find the five negligent and award compensatory and punitive damages. It also demands that Jefferson County Public Schools certify sufficient staffers are trained to manage care for students with juvenile diabetes.

A spokeswoman with the school district says per policy, they do not comment on pending litigation.
