Stumbo Open To Medical Marijuana Legalization
FRANKFORT, Ky. - A Democratic leader in Frankfort says medical marijuana deserves a closer look in Kentucky.
Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo said Wednesday the state should weigh the idea of legalizing medical marijuana.
The Speaker says research is beginning to reveal marijuana’s potential as a treatment method and he’s leaning toward supporting its use in a medical setting. The Daily Journal reports that Stumbo says the issue is worth debating.
Legislation to legalize medical marijuana has been put forward in the General Assembly in the past but has never garnered enough support for passage.
Stumbo raised the issue after Attorney General Jack Conway sent an advisory letter Wednesday to state leaders warning that growing industrial hemp remains illegal in Kentucky under federal law.
