Stinnett Seeking At-Large Council Seat In 2014
Veteran 6th District Urban County Council member Kevin Stinnett will make a run for one of Lexington’s At-Large council seats next year.
"I ask you today, and all voters of Fayette County, to elect me as your Council At-Large representative in 2014. Thank you all," Stinnett ended his announcement Tuesday.
At the corner of Man O’ War and Liberty Road, an intersection Stinnett was instrumental in widening, the five-term council member argued that his experience makes him an ideal candidate to represent all of Lexington.
Stinnett, who also owns Premier Financial Group – Insurance and Financial Services, has kept much of his focus on the city’s finances throughout his tenure on the council.
"My financial background helps me know the budget better than almost anyone downtown. I've been able to help the city write the debt management plan, worked on our economic contingency fund ordinance, so I've done a number of things in the financial arena and that's very important when you're serving the city: to know where the money is and how it's spent, and hold us accountable for all the taxes that we collect," Stinnett told WUKY.
The highest vote-getter in the At-Large race will become the city’s next Vice Mayor. The current occupant of that office, Linda Gorton, announced earlier this year that she does not plan to seek re-election in 2014.
