State Lawmakers Will Wait Until Monday To Resume Session

State lawmakers have extended the 2015 legislative session after two historic snowfalls in less than a month forced them to miss four days of work.

A winter storm dumped close to 2 feet of snow on the state capital early Thursday, knocking out power at the statehouse complex.

The cancellation comes at a crucial time, with just five scheduled work days left in the session. Several key bills are pending, including measures to address the state's heroin epidemic and make Kentucky the last state in the country to offer some sort of civil protections for victims of abusive dating relationships.

Lawmakers will meet Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week before returning to the Capitol on March 23 and 24 to take up any vetoes from Democrat Gov. Steve Beshear.
