Spotlight Lexington A No-Go For 2011

By Alan Lytle

Lexington, KY – Organizers of the Spotlight Lexington Festival have officially canceled this year's event citing a lack of corporate support. Spotlight Chair Kip Cornett says while the festival proved a very popular aspect of the World Equestrian Games last fall, continuing it this year proved cost-prohibitive.

"It became pretty clear that we couldn't put on the same type of show and the same type of experience that we did in 2010. So rather than trot something out that was below people's expectations and was a giant step back, we thought, let's catch our breath, let's re-group and go at it for next year."

Cornett says the success of last year's 10 day festival was already going to be a hard act to follow.

"We did think that even though it's a very daunting economy, that we could raise enough dollars to put on a great show but just with a fewer days, but it soon became obvious that we weren't going to be able to raise enough dollars to put on even a five day festival at the level we wanted."

Cornett says the title sponsor, Saint Joseph Healthcare, has indicated it will be on board for a possible re-boot in 2012.
