Special Panel Will Take Up 'Whose Farm To Whose Table'

Farm to table issues will be the topic of a special panel discussion this evening in Lexington.

The event is part of the UK Gaines Center for the Humanities' long-running Lafayette Seminar.  Center Director Phil Harling says the program is titled “Whose Farm To Whose Table”

"We hear a lot these days about the benefits of farm to table agriculture and what that often means is the delivery of local foods to good local restaurants farmers' markets, or upscale grocers, but what about getting that good, healthy local food to folks who may not be in a good position to pay for it?  How do we connect local producers with consumers of relatively more modest means?" Harling explained.

The panelists will include:

Jim Embry, founder and director of Sustainable Communities Network;

Karyn Moskowitz, director of New Roots Inc. and the Fresh Stop Project in Louisville;

Mac Stone, Elmwood Stock Farm; and

Ashton Potter Wright, local food coordinator for Lexington-Fayette UrbanCountyGovernment.

The event gets under way tonight at 5:30 at the Lyric Theater Community Room.
