Some But Not All Senate Candidates Show Up For Debate At UK

By Alan Lytle

Lexington, KY – Exactly half of the announced candidates for U-S Senate showed up Wednesday for a debate at the University of Kentucky. The forum was sponsored by the Scripps Howard First Amendment Center. Democrats Maurice Sweeney, Darlene Fitzgerald Price, Republican Gurley Martin, plus the two Democrat physicians in the race, James Buckmaster and Daniel Mongiardo, reiterated their positions on various issues including the healthcare overhaul, excessive taxes, and big money lobbyists.

Democrat Jack Conway, as well as Republicans Rand Paul, Trey Grayson, Jon Scribner and John Stephenson skipped the forum. About a hundred high school and UK students, plus faculty, and staff attended the lunchtime event.
