SOAR Summit Rescheduled For May 11th

A strategy summit focusing on ways to boost eastern Kentucky's economy has been rescheduled for May 11 in Pikeville at the East Kentucky Expo Center.

The summit had been planned for Feb. 16 but was canceled due to a snowstorm.

Nearly 1,000 people were registered for the SOAR Summit. Organizers say those registrations will be honored for the new date. Those unable to attend the May 11 event can request a refund online.

The summit is meant to bring together citizens and leaders from communities to work collectively to improve the region's economy. Eastern Kentucky has lost about 7,000 coal-mining jobs since the start of 2012.

Summit participants will focus on successes in other communities and work on efforts to make the region more competitive for state and federal grants.
