Sheriff's Office To Mount Domestic Violence Awareness Campaign

Josh James

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is gearing up for a massive campaign against domestic violence in October. The goal is to reach a wider and more diverse audience than in years past.

Expect to see a lot of the Speak Up Campaign in the coming weeks. With an eye toward expanding the initiative’s reach, the department is embarking on a digital media outreach effort, pamphleting, and a push to make campaign materials available everywhere from doctors’ offices to Costco.

The video portion features two well-known names in Lexington, including the mother of Amanda Ross, the woman slain by former state Rep. Steve Nunn.

"Early this summer, we had the opportunity to bring in in head coach Mark Stoops and Diana Ross to create a PSA on domestic violence and we think that, putting those two individuals together is going to reach a larger audience and send a very strong message," says Fayette County Sheriff Kathy Witt.

The campaign encourages residents to know the signs of domestic violence and contact Amanda’s Center in the Sheriff’s Office at (859) 252-1771  if you know someone is in a violent relationship.
