FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky Senate Republicans have unveiled an aggressive agenda for the 2011 General Assembly. For one thing, they plan to introduce legislation creating a 48-hour rule for any bill that raises or spends taxes. Senate President David Williams says that will give lawmakers and the public time to study the measures before any votes are taken.
"It would give people an opportunity to not only become informed about that issue but to have an opportunity to petition and communicate with their elected representatives. And I just think it's something that, that's time has come."
The Senate majority also wants to get the ball rolling on revising Kentucky's antiquated tax code; allow charter schools; reform the state retirement system; and increase government transparency. The 30-day session begins January 4th.
