Second Lexington Skate Park In The Works
Lexington is embarking on the design process for its second skate park.
The Urban County Council and Mayor Jim Gray have designated $500,000 toward the project at Berry Hill Park, which supporters hope will become a destination spot for the city.
Councilman George Myers, a strong proponent of the park, told WUKY during the budgeting process that the city will seek input from those most likely to utilize the park.
"The park has not been designed yet, so the kids are going to get an opportunity to have a really hands on piece to the development of the skate park and what actually is in the skate park," Myers said.
The park is expected to include a variety of both transition style skate features as well as street elements. In a press release, Myers says the city is currently seeking a consultant and hopes to begin construction next summer with a completion date by the end of 2014.
