School Is 'In' For Thousands Of Fayette County Students

More than 40,000 students are hitting the books again in Fayette County.  Karyn Czar reports on the district's first day of school.

Day one, hour two, Millcreek Elementary.  Fayette County Schools Superintendent Tom Shelton had already visited five other schools before being greeted by an excited group of kindergartners.

Dr. Shelton told WUKY the day seemed to be running like a "well-oiled machine."

Shelton said the district finished nine renovation projects over the summer and parents and students had three upcoming projects to look forward to.  Two new elementary and a new high school are in the works.  The county will also be looking at redistricting later this year.
