Lexington, KY – It's been 41 years since the Beatles, Donovan and Mike Love of the Beach Boys traveled to India to study Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Since then, millions have learned the technique and numerous studies have been done touting its healthful benefits, including the relief of stress. The "Change Begins Within" initiative is providing scholarship monies to fund tuition and training for teachers who want to teach meditation to school children. Jeffrey Murphy is co-director of the Maharishi Peace Palace in Lexington. He says helping children deal with stress is one way - if not the ONLY way to quell violence in America's schools.
Murphy says there are currently no Transcendental Meditation programs in Kentucky schools. He says educators interested in taking advantage of the scholarships can find more information at DavidLynchFoundation-dot-org.
