SPAIN WINS GOLD AT DERBY CUP
Shazzam! Zowieeeeeee!
This is not some one-off side gig for mega band My Morning Jacket's Patrick Hallahan. This is a superb power trio centered around Dante Schwebel, late of Hacienda. In talking with Dante backstage he brought up artists like the late great Doug Sahm, founder of Sir Douglas Quintet, and Alejandro Escovedo as key influences. Given his raisin' in Laredo it makes sense --- even more when you hear these guys play (rounded out by San Antonio bassman, Adrian Quesada).
There is an unquestioned southwestern slinkyness to their sound. Strong chords and beat, but bold and fun. And LOUD!
Schwebel talked about how he and Hallahan were working some sessions in Nashville when they started tossin ideas around. Tour roomies four years ago backing Dan Auerbach's solo tour, they learned they could be a band. And thank the Rock Gods. Given their energy, they could be doing this for awhile. Even cooler for hometown hippie and channeler of 70s big hair (think the flute player with Kansas!) Hallahan, da Ville fans turned out big. And they pay off was biggah!!
