Repubicans Continue Strategy Of Linking Grimes, Obama
The Super PAC tied to Senator Mitch McConnell plans to run a radio ad portraying his likely Democratic challenger as an Obama ally.
Kentuckians for Strong Leadership is continuing a Republican theme so far in the 2014 campaign, linking Alison Lundergan Grimes to President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The $90,000 ad campaign casts Grimes as an Obama ally who will help force the president’s “liberal agenda” on the country.
McConnell has been upfront about his strategy to make the election a referendum on Obama, an unpopular president in the Bluegrass. Grimes, for her part, hasn’t invoked the president’s name often in recent weeks, likely to avoid giving the opposition more fodder for campaign ads. She has also taken a rightward tack on the issue of coal, blaming both McConnell and Obama for failing Eastern Kentucky workers.
The spot will run through December 17th, though not in the Louisville market.
