Report: Keeneland To Host 2015 Breeders' Cup

An official announcement could come next week, but all indications point to Keeneland being the host site of the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

The Louisville Courier Journal reports that Keeneland has been awarded the honor over Churchill Downs.  The paper says Keeneland will get the cup in 2015, followed by a return to Santa Anita in Arcadia in 2016, and then Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in San Diego in 2017.

Racing insiders say Keeneland strengthened its case immeasurably by ripping out its synthetic polytrack surface and going back to all dirt.

Breeders Cup officials have made no secret of their preference to run the high stakes races on dirt surfaces.

A Breeders' Cup spokesman has said the organization isn't commenting on the published report and several board members declined to discuss plans when contacted by the newspaper.
