Red Cross Spokesman: "Worst Devastation I Have Ever Seen"
A spokesman with the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross says the agency has sent out 300 volunteers to help with storm relief efforts in six Eastern Kentucky counties, including Morgan County where a powerful tornado all but leveled the town of West Liberty.
Winn Stephens spent the better part of the weekend helping those affected cope with the devastation.
“I mean the complete town has been destroyed in West Liberty and families who are bringing loved ones to the triage center in their car, only to be told that they had passed and there was nothing more that could be done for them, to families that were not together when the storm hit the town and they were trying to find one another and all of those things; it’s just really tragic.”
Stephens says the Red Cross is encouraging those who wish to help in the effort do so monetarily.
“You can text the word REDCROSS to 90999, and that’s an automatic ten dollar donation. If you want to donate more than ten dollars you can do that more than once. You can visit redcross.org, on the top right corner you will see a donate now button, you can select that and click disaster relief, and you can also call 1-800-REDCROSS to make a donation.”
