Centre College officials have unveiled a new scholarship program, funded by the largest single gift in the school’s history.
Recruitment has already started for the first class of Grissom Scholars, whose full tuition scholarships will be funded through a record-breaking gift to the college.
In searching for candidates, Centre president John Roush says the school will be looking for ten exceptionally talented high-need first-generation students.
"There's a part of the American population that really no longer sees college or university life as a part of their future and we need to change that. This program is designed to create a model for other institutions that might choose to follow," he says.
Though Centre officials are staying mum on the full amount of the gift at the request of the donors Marlene and J. David Grissom, they say it tops any single donation ever made to a Kentucky college or university, public or private.
The first round of Grissom Scholars will be announced next April.
