Public Input Needed on Fayette Co. Superintendent Search

By Brenna Angel

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The public has a chance to weigh in on the Fayette County Board of Education's search for a new superintendent. Board chairman John Price says representatives from the search firm McPherson & Jacobson are hosting five public forums.

"I suspect they're going to be asking questions what are the most important issues that you see that need to be taken on by the new superintendent. Perhaps they'll ask what have you liked about the performance of the past superintendent and what would you like to see changed in the future."

Beginning Tuesday, an online survey will be also be available. Price says the feedback will shape what kind of questions the board asks candidates.

"The board will be meeting with McPherson and Jacobson to receive the input from these various meetings. And not only are they taking input from these five public forums, but there are probably someplace between 40 to 50 different community groups that we are seeking input from."

The groups include the 16th District PTA, Commerce Lexington, and the Equity Council.

Applications for the superintendent post will be accepted through May 16. Public meetings will also be held when the finalists are announced in June.

Current Fayette County Public Schools superintendent Stu Silberman will retire this summer and serve as executive director of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence.
