FRANKFORT, Ky. – A hearing is scheduled Wednesday on the sale of Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities to Pennsylvania-based PPL Corporation. The sale of the two companies, currently owned by E.ON-U.S., must be approved by the Kentucky Public Service Commission.

PSC spokesman Andrew Melnykovich says the hearing is open to the public.

"There will be an opportunity for public comment at the beginning of the hearing. Then at the conclusion of the hearing, since there is a settlement, presumably there will not be a need for any post hearing briefs or other documents to be filed so the commission will take the matter under advisement. The commission has by statute until the end of September to reach a decision."

Under the settlement, Melnykovich says PP&L has agreed not to raise base rates for customers before 2013 if the sale is approved.

Wednesday's hearing is at 10 a.m. at the commission's offices in Frankfort.
