President Obama To Host Champion Wildcats This Friday
LEXINGTON, Ky. - President Barack Obama will host the National Champion Kentucky Wildcats basketball team at the White House this Friday.
Obama, who did not pick the Cats to prevail in his March Madness bracket, will nevertheless celebrate UK’s 8th National Championship, one day before the Bluegrass State’s signature event; the Kentucky Derby.
“The amazing thing is the first thing that was said when the horn sounded in New Orleans was, ‘We’re going to the White House", UK Coach John Calipari said in a statement.
“It’s one of those moments for these players that they have probably thought about without us even knowing that it was important to them. So I’m excited about the opportunity for them to meet the President of the United States, the Leader of the Free World and someone who is trying to make a difference in their lives.”
UK bested Kansas to capture an eighth NCAA Championship. The Wildcats only trail UCLA (11) for the most crowns.
