Police ID Murder Victim 47 Years After Remains Found

Kentucky State Police say they have identified the remains of a woman whose body was found along an eastern Kentucky trail nearly 50 years ago.

Police said in a statement Wednesday that the remains belong to Sonja Kaye Blair-Adams, who was originally from Letcher County. She was identified through DNA testing after her information was entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

A man picking flowers on the side of Little Shepherd Train in Harlan County found her body in 1969 and police determined she had been slain.

Police say the woman's daughter, Karen Stipes, found information about the case and contacted officials to say there was a possibility the Jane Doe may be her mother.  Police exhumed the body in 2015 to obtain a DNA sample and found out this month it matched Stipes.

Police are continuing to investigate and hope to find the person who killed Blair-Adams.
