LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Blood Center is hosting its annual blood drive competition between the Lexington's police and fire departments, but this year, with a little twist.
Spokeswoman Denise Fields says the departments have decided to come together in honor of a fallen comrade.
"It's a memorial blood drive in memory of Officer Bryan Durman who lost his life in the line of duty earlier this year in Lexington. His widow, Brandy, has very graciously asked if we would host a memorial blood drive in her husband's honor."
Fields says with the World Equestrian Games starting later this month, local hospitals are asking for at least 500 more units of blood than usual for this time of year.
The blood drive runs September 7-9. Go to kybloodcenter.org for more information.
