Police Arrest Husband of Lexington Murder Victim

By Brenna Angel

LEXINGTON, Ky. – An arrest has been made in the murder case of Umi Southworth, but Lexington police have been unable to comment. Southworth is the 44-year-old mother who was killed last June. Police discovered her beaten body and mistakenly thought she was dead. Southworth died the next day.

It appears Southworth's husband, Don Southworth, is charged with the crime. He was listed Thursday morning as an inmate on the Fayette County Detention center's website.

Officials had called a midnight press conference for midnight to announce an arrest in the case, but it was canceled after investigators learned the case had been sealed by a judge. Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts says any statements or further details could only be released after the case is unsealed.
