Paul Proposes Eliminating Gasoline Tax

Washington, DC – U.S. Sen. Rand Paul is proposing elimination of the gasoline tax to ease the financial burden on Americans.

Paul said he intends to make the proposal an amendment to any energy bill that comes before the Senate. He proposes offsetting the lost revenue with a corresponding reduction in foreign aid and corporate welfare.

"It's only a short term solution. Let's get rid of the eighteen cents for the next four months through the summer season. It'll cost the treasury, it'll be less money coming into the treasury -- ten to twelve billion dollars in the next four months. Let's take it from somewhere else."

Such a proposal is a huge long-shot because of concerns about losing federal money that goes to maintain and expand the nation's highways.
