Lexington, KY – For more than two decades, Andre Pater's brushstrokes have been doing just that, especially among horse enthusiasts; not just in his adopted home in Central Kentucky, but literally around the world. Now, the University of Kentucky Art Museum is presenting a showcase of the Polish born artist's greatest works. Director of Education, Debra Borrowdale-Cox, says the Bluegrass Palette of Andre Pater comprises more than 80 paintings.

Horse racing fans will certainly recognize portraits of champion thoroughbreds, including Rachel Alexandra, and the late Kentucky Derby winner, Barbaro, but the exhibition also includes numerous paintings of jockeys in their brightly colored racing silks. And Pater even pays tribute to the nearly-forgotten influence that African American jockeys once had on the sport.

The Bluegrass Palette of Andre Pater runs through October 10th at the UK Art Museum.
