One Book One Bluegrass Picks Bill Bryson's "A Walk In The Woods"

Apr 2, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A community project meant to bring together Central Kentucky readers runs through April. One Book One Bluegrass will feature A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson.

Think of it as a giant book club, spanning an entire region of the state. Libraries throughout Fayette, Anderson, Madison, Woodford, and other counties will order extra copies of Bill Bryson’s outdoor travelogue and organizing a wide range of events around the book’s themes. Christina Cornelison with the Madison County Public Library says that will include a number of hikes.

"Every walk is going to be a guided walk, so you'll learn things along the way. A couple counties are doing wildlife photography on the walk, so there's going to be all kinds of fun things to do. We wanted to spotlight some of the things in our own backyards that maybe folks don't even know are there," she says.

Cornelison says the hope is that readers will cross county lines to discuss the book and meet new people in the process. A full listing of the events is online at onebookonebluegrass.org. WUKY is a sponsor of the program.
