Consulting engineers on the I-75 Connector project in Madison County updated a Citizen’s Advisory Committee Tuesday night.
Engineer Jerry Leslie with HW Lochner told the panel of public officials and residents that widening existing roads between Nicholasville and northern Madison County would impact property owners and likely force the relocation of some houses. A new road, however, could hug existing property lines, causing less disruption.
All four potential routes identified by engineers start at the proposed Eastern Bypass set to circle to Nicholasville's east side, cross the Kentucky River, and end up at the Boonesboro Road exit off I-75 in northern Madison County.
The project has faced opposition from some residents who argue a new road will negatively impact sensitive ecosystems and historical sites.
2020 is the earliest construction could begin on the project, if a final design is approved.
