LEXINGTON, Ky. – Want to have a say in what's happening at Fayette County Public Schools but don't have a child that's enrolled at the district? Then Kentucky's 16th District PTA says their new Education Advocates group could be a good fit.
Group spokeswoman Liza Holland says Education Advocates is a new community-wide PTA for Lexington residents, businesses, and organizations.
"It affects our entire society how well our children are educated and how well prepared they are to be able to go out in the workforce. You know, it's important for businesses to have an input and a say in how their future workforce is trained."
Education Advocates pay membership dues like regular PTA members. They receive newsletters and can participate in monthly meetings.
"The superintendent comes and gives us an update on what's going on with the district. And it's a really nice time to be able to share and to talk about efforts that all of us can get on board with."
Holland say organizers researched other cities that have formed community-wide PTAs, including Knoxville, Tennessee. There are about 10,000 PTA members in Fayette County.
