No More Green Slips For Kentucky Lawmakers

Officials in Frankfort are working on a modernized system of getting messages to lawmakers during the General Assembly.

In the past, legislative staffers would take "green slips," containing phone messages from constituents to lawmakers during the legislative session.

Marcia Seiler, interim director of the Legislative Research Commission, told the Lexington Herald-Leader that she hopes a new system will be in place by the Jan. 6 start of the 2015 legislative session. She says the system will relay messages electronically, and lawmakers will be able to retrieve their messages and handle them like email.

She says there won't be any more green slips unless lawmakers ask for messages to be printed.
