Museum Exhibit Focuses on Land Lost to Development

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A new exhibit at the Kentucky Horse Park’s International Museum of the Horse highlights the struggle to protect land used for horse farms, pastures, and trails.

The exhibit is called “Losing Ground: The Greatest Threat” and was developed by the non-profit organization Equine Land Conservation Resource.

“We’ve been losing a tremendous amount of open space, but it’s really increased over the last few decades. And it’s getting to the point where we’re losing 6,000 acres of open land a day, ” says ELCR education coordinator Denise O'Meara

The exhibit features interactive kiosks and will be open for three years at the International Museum of the Horse in Lexington.

“We will be constantly updating the exhibit. Like right we have about five or six communities from around the country that we’re using as indicators communities to show people what it looks like when land is lost. And we will be adding to that as time goes by.”
