LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Champ is coming to the World Equestrian Games. Organizers announced this afternoon that Kentucky native and boxing legend Muhammad Ali will be part of the games' opening ceremonies.

Greg Roberts, CEO of the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, says the Ali's have a strong relationship with title sponsor Alltech.

"Ali and Lonnie will be here as guests of Pearse Lyons and Alltech. And we're looking forward to this wonderful event in the state of Kentucky, and we congratulate Alltech for being a major force in bring this event for the first time outside of Europe. We look forward to that, we also look forward to our continuing relationship at the Olympics and at the World Equestrian Games in France in 2014."

The Ali's have previously partnered with Alltech on a philanthropic project called the Alltech-Muhammad Ali Center Global Education and Charitable Fund. Last year Pearse Lyons took Muhammad Ali to visit Ireland, where the boxer's great-grandfather was born.

The opening ceremony of the World Equestrian Games is September 25 at the Kentucky Horse Park.
