MSNBC Host To Speak On Poverty In Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. - MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry will be the keynote at Community Action Council’s 6th annual Poverty Forum Thursday. The event format has also undergone some changes this year.
Thursday night’s event, entitled “A Night To Fight Back,” will look a bit different from events past. This year will include a panel similar to the ones seen on keynote Melissa Harris-Perry’s weekend show on MSNBC.
Malcolm Ratchford, executive director of Community Action Council, says, "We did Tavis Smiley last year, so we try to keep a keynote speaker who people can recognize and who can put a face on poverty as well. So our purpose is to get people there and just try to share that poverty impacts everybody."
Ratchford says the hope is that attendees will come away with a broader understanding of the different types of poverty affecting the state and nation. The event is sold out, but those who have already bought tickets are encouraged to pre-register online at commaction.org.
