Movie Theater Project Considered For Downtown Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. - A second movie theater could be coming to downtown Lexington, if talks between the city’s Downtown Development Authority and a California movie theater developer are successful.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that developer George Krikorian, out of Torrance, California, has submitted two proposals for a new six-screen movie, entertainment, and restaurant complex: one above the Transit Center and the other behind the Kentucky Theater. Downtown Development Authority president Jeff Fugate says it’s far from a done deal, but the authority is planning on continuing talks.
The project would require negotiating a ground lease with the Urban County Government, which owns both sites. Krikorian, who has built more than 20 multi-screen theaters primarily in urban areas of California, has been asked to visit Lexington to meet with the mayor and other officials the first week in January.
