More Ky. Students Acing Advanced Placement Tests

By Associated Press

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky students are reaping benefits from the National Math and Science Initiative, an effort to encourage teens to take Advanced Placement courses in high school.

Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education President Bob King said the state was chosen to participate in the initiative two years ago and has seen remarkable success.

King said scores on AP exams in Kentucky have increased by 62 percent over the two-year period.

That's with only 44 Kentucky schools and about 12,000 students participating. Ten more schools are expected to join in the fall.

King said the success of the program has been so impressive, every high school in the state should be clamoring to be included.
