More Blasts On The Way For Downtown Lexington

Mar 17, 2014

Traffic around CentrePointe in downtown Lexington will be blocked around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning as crews set off their second blast of the week.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported crews began blasting Monday on the long-awaited CentrePointe project. Officials estimate the blasting and removal the resulting rock and debris from the site could take about 60 days.

To alert those in the vicinity, Jonathan Hollinger with the Division of Planning says the city has launched a texting service that will inform those nearby when the blasts are set to go off. Horns are also sounded prior to the explosions.

A second blast is expected Tuesday morning between 9:50 and 10. The work will then stop during the 2014 Boys Sweet Sixteen and resume on March 24.
