More Affordable Housing Units Open In Lexington

Karyn Czar

Another ribbon was cut Monday morning at Parkside Apartments on Cross Keys Road and residents began moving into phase three of the complex’s affordable housing units. The property was originally the home of the Gardenside Cabana Club and the Cross Keys YMCA.  The final phase of Parkside Apartments brings the number of affordable apartment units in the complex to 108.

AU Associates President and founder Holly Wiedemann says the mission has been more than finding affordable living for lower income citizens, it’s creating safe spaces that people can be proud to call home. Anglea Clayborne says she had apartments she could afford in the past, but moving into Parkside when phase one was completed two years ago has been the difference between having a place to live, and a place to call home.

All three phases equate to an $18 and a half million investment in the Gardenside Neighborhood. The new building has 7 one-bedroom, 19 two-bedroom and 8 three-bedroom apartments. They’re available to families who make 60% or below the median income and monthly rent is between $525 and $775 a month and that includes water, sewer and trash.
