Moloney Kicks Off Independent Senate Campaign
Former Urban County Council member Richard Moloney officially kicked off his campaign for Kentucky’s 13th District state Senate seat Tuesday.
Moloney had hoped to run as a Democrat before the party gave its nod to Reggie Thomas, a lawyer and professor at Kentucky State University. At Tuesday’s rollout, Moloney played up his independent candidacy as a positive in time of political gridlock.
"It is times like these that we need a senator who can bridge the partisan divide and work with members of both sides of the political aisle," the candidate told a group of supporters.
Moloney will also run against Republican Michael Johnson, a full-time minister with Hands On Ministry who works in the state Senate during legislative sessions.
All three are vying for the spot vacated by Kathy Stein, who left the senate seat for a judgeship in Lexington.
