Memorial Coliseum To Host NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Games
Memorial Coliseum has been chosen as a first-time host site of first and second round games in 2014 NCAAW tournament.
The NCAA's first event here since nearby Rupp Arena hosted the 1986 Women's Final Four provides the Wildcats' first chance to open tournament play on their home floor, which Kentucky coach Matthew Mitchell called an "awesome opportunity." Mitchell's team seeks its first Final Four appearance after reaching their third regional final in four years last season.
Memorial Coliseum was one of 16 early round sites selected Wednesday to host games March 22-25, 2014, with exact dates to be announced. The 8,000-seat arena has hosted 10 NCAA volleyball tournaments with another a regional scheduled for Dec. 13-14.
