McConnell, Paul Praise House Repeal of Healthcare Law

By Brenna Angel

WASHINGTON – Kentucky's Republican U.S. Senators are praising a vote by the House to repeal the healthcare reform law. The proposal passed Wednesday evening by a count of 245-189.

Although the repeal measure is considered largely symbolic and would be vetoed by President Obama, Senator Mitch McConnell says he'll make sure the issue is addressed in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

"I want to congratulate our colleagues in the House on this important first step. I hope the Senate will soon follow suit with a vote of its own. The Democratic leadership in the Senate doesn't want to vote on this bill, but I assure you we will."

Kentucky's junior Senator, Rand Paul, also praised House GOP members Wednesday, saying he will fight to end what he calls a "misguided big-government solution to an issue better addressed in a free-market environment."
