Mayor Jim Gray Confirms 2014 Reelection Bid
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Lexington Mayor Jim Gray plans to seek reelection in 2014. The mayor made it official at a gathering downtown Tuesday night.
"I love working for all of you and I would like to stay on the job," Gray told supporters Tuesday.
With the election two years away, Mayor Gray has quieted any speculation that he might be interested in leaving the post. Gray made the announcement in front of an enthusiastic group of supporters at Buster’s, the same place where he celebrated his election two years ago. The mayor offered no comment on any potential challengers he might face in 2014.
"This is just to announce I'm going to run and we'll be putting the plan together," he said.
In his speech, Gray highlighted the 21cHotel planned for downtown, Boston-based law firm Bingham McCutchen’s move to Lexington, and efforts to transform the Rupp Arena area as evidence that the city is moving in the right direction.
