A high school teacher accused of having sexual contact with a student has been arrested.
The Berea Police Department is reporting that 24-year-old Brandi Whitaker was charged Tuesday with third-degree rape, first-degree sex abuse and third-degree sodomy. She was starting her second year at Madison Southern High School, where she taught biology.
Berea Police Sergeant Jake Reed said two alleged incidents happened over the summer.
Madison County Schools said in a statement that Whitaker has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. The district says it is cooperating with the police investigation and conducting one of its own.
Whitaker has declined a request for an interview.
